Nellie Jo Lowder

Jo was born on August 17, 1934, in Statesville, NC, to James Claude and Nellie Smith Jones. She was proud to say she taught elementary school for 30 years, finishing her career at North Myrtle Beach Elementary.

Jo is survived by her daughter, Paula Jo Lowder Calhoun (Brett), and granddaughter, Lara Brett Calhoun, of Knoxville, TN, brother-in-law Richard Lowder (Ferry Lane) of Lexington, NC, nephew Nelson Whisnant of Monroe, NC, special niece-in-law Sandy Whisnant of Archdale, NC, and their families. In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Paul Dean Lowder. A couple of beach bums, Jo and Paul loved fishing and shag dancing and now they are dancing together again after twelve years apart. Jo also was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Gayle Whisnant.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Lee Funeral Home in Little River, SC.
