Psalm 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy, and I will give thanks to him in song.”
Peter “Pete” Barbera Jr., 69, of North Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at home.
Born in Takoma Park, MD, he was the son of the late Peter and Margaret “Jackie” (Lamaster) Barbera. Pete was a 3rd generation Italian baker and operated the family business, Barbera Bakery, in Cheverly, MD, for many years.
Pete was a student of the Word of God and loved the Lord with all his heart. Those who knew him, loved him. He adored his beloved wife, children and grandchildren, and thought the world of his extended family members and friends. He was an avid Washington Capitals hockey fan, though there was nothing he enjoyed more than attending his sons’ games, whether it be hockey, soccer or baseball, regardless of how far he had to travel to be there. His interests were diverse. To say Pete enjoyed music is an understatement. He spent hours upon hours researching family histories online. He discovered facts we would have otherwise never known. He loved travelling across America with his wife and mother-in-law. They visited 49 states; Alaska was on his bucket list. His favorite saying was, “I’m a road trip waiting to happen.”
Pete is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan (Pollock) Barbera; sons, Peter (Jen), Nicholas (Felicia) and their children Asher and Israel, Andrew (Stephanie) and their children Anderson and Adley, Timothy (Rose) and their children Soren and Finan, and Joshua (Kerri) and their daughter Lily Sue; mother-in-law, Doris Pollock; aunt, Martha Jane Kiernan; sisters-in-law, Ann Meechie and Kelley Laney; brothers-in-law, Ronald Bundy and Charles Laney; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Iolanda “Ruth” Bundy and Margaret “Peggy” Webb; brother-in-law, Michael Webb; and granddaughter, Arwen Marie Barbera.
No service is planned at this time.
For anyone who would care to make a donation in Pete’s name, I recommend one of the following:
The Kraus Fund (information below) Dr. Kraus was Pete’s nephrologist for many years and he and Dr. Choi treated him with kid gloves. We couldn’t have asked for better doctors. I personally owe them a huge debt of gratitude.
