He was the loving husband of Christine (Grab) Cahill and had been married for over 40 years. Peter was born in Canaan, CT on July 24, 1944 and he was number 12 of 15 children of the late Fred J. and Alice (Clum) Cahill.
He had been a successful insurance agent for over 50 years with Prudential Life Insurance Company, Metropolitan Life, and New York Long Term Care Company. Peter was also a U.S. Navy veteran during the Cuban Missile Crisis and of the Vietnam era.
In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by his children, Amanda Schillig (Matt) of Blacklick, OH; Todd M. Cahill of Poplar Grove, IL; Adam P. Cahill (Ketsia) of Broadalbin, NY; seven grandchildren, Katherine (Kate) and Emila Cashman; Izabel and Elijah Schillig; Olivia, Aiden, and Arabella Cahill. He is also survived by five siblings, Robert Cahill; Betty Storm, Donald (Joan) Cahill; Margaret Wilson (Jimbo); Thomas Cahill; and hundreds of nieces and nephews.
He had been predeceased just eight days earlier by his beautiful daughter, Christine Cahill Cashman.
Peter had been a member of Perth Bible Church in NY for over 30 years before moving to SC and was a partner of Waterbrook Community Church while down here. He was a past president and very active worker of the Millerton NY Lions Club and the Amsterdam, NY Rotary Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 186 in Little River, an area golf league, and participated in Community Bible Study for years.
He was known by his infectious smile, his array of cowboy hats, and his guitar playing and singing. For many years he sang and played guitar with his brothers in their country band called “The Cahill Brothers”.
He loved golf but one of his greatest pleasures was playing country and worship music at several churches and assisted living facilities. Oh how those ladies lit up when Mr. Peter walked into the room to entertain them! He was always ready and excited to share the Gospel story and let people know for certain how they could get to Heaven.
He will be missed by many for sure!
The memorial service will be held on Friday, January 22 at 1 pm at Waterbrook Community Church, 86 Cloverleaf Drive, Suite 206, Longs, SC 29568.
