Rebecca “Becky” Abernethy, 75, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord on Thursday June 19, 2025. Born on April 3,1950, in Winston-Salem to the late William Odell and Alice Cox Owens.
Becky was a devoted Moravian throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Hopewell Moravian Church in Winston-Salem and attended the Missionary Sunday School Class. She was also involved with Jared’s H.O.P.E Ministry as well as volunteering in many other capacities within the church.
Becky was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College, where she earned a degree in education. Although she trained as an educator, she found her professional calling in the banking industry. Over the course of her lifelong career, she rose through the ranks from teller to branch manager, earning the admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Becky loved being near the water and could often be found lounging by the pool and spending her vacations relaxing at the beach. In her younger years she enjoyed skiing and embraced the joys of life surrounded by family and friends during summers at the lake.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Hahn (Chad); her son, Chris Abernethy; her beloved sister, Patricia Wall; and many cherished nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Hopewell Moravian Church, 701 Hopewell Church Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Graveside service to follow in God’s Acre at the church.
