Rhonda Jean Wharton, 73, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at home with her faithful husband by her side. Born on August 4, 1952, in Washington, DC, Rhonda was the daughter of the late George and Betty Powell Norman.
A dedicated wife of 42 years, Rhonda married Allen Wharton on November 5, 1983. She was an exceptionally talented artist turning the simplest things into something exquisite. Rhonda had a beautiful spirit that ran deeper than her soul. She was unafraid to try new things, whether in her art, in the kitchen, or in the everyday moments that become memories, doing so with a smile and sincere joy. Rhonda found deep contentment in tending her garden and took special pleasure in cooking and baking for those she loved. She also carried a tender compassion for animals and was dedicated to helping rescues, offering care and concern where it was needed most.
Surviving Rhonda, in addition to her husband Al, are her children, Curtis and Melanie; stepdaughter, Brandy; grandson, Oliver; and sisters, Carol, Cynthia and Martha.
Rhonda’s unwavering faith as a child of God sustained her, and He stood by her during these difficult months. There will be no service held at this time; however, in Rhonda’s memory, please take care of yourself. She would want everyone to be proactive, receiving the appropriate scans and tests in order to detect any health concerns and always being an advocate for personal health, remembering that finding out early can save a life.
The family requests that anyone wanting to make a memorial contribution, please do so to the Humane Society or to your local animal shelter to help a Rescue Animal.
Although she will be forever missed, her life was a blessing to all.
