Richard (Rick) Hess Grimm, 61, passed away on August 9, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.
Rick was born on November 10, 1956 in Corry, PA. He was the son of Richard Eugene and Elizabeth Hess Grimm.
Rick is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jane (Lawlor) Grimm; five children, Kelly Ann Rossi (husband Michael John), Richard Eugene Grimm, Ashley Jane Grimm, Regina Marie Mealia (husband Frederick Francis), Christopher Charles Grimm (wife Dr. Aimee Ann); 3 grandchildren, Ryley Jane Rossi, Owen Patrick and Benjamin Andrew Mealia; dear cousin, Cynthia Miceli along with many other cousins, in-laws, extended family, and friends he loved dearly.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Rick joined the United States Navy in 1977 which took his family to Philadelphia, Alaska, and Virginia before he retired as a Lieutenant (Mustang) in July 1994. He was a Naval Recruiter for many years and served in the Persian Gulf War while on the USS Nassau. He served on various other ships: The USS Johnston, USS Dahlgren, and USS Inchon rounding out his Naval career as the communications officer for Commander of the Second Fleet. Rick was extremely proud to serve his country.
After retiring from the Navy, the Grimm family moved to Sugarloaf, PA where they were immediately welcomed back into the community where Rick was raised. Rick was a sports fanatic and a huge Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles Fan. Watching the Eagles win the 2018 Super Bowl was a sports highlight he got to enjoy with his family. He was a natural athlete and shared many of these talents with his kids. He spent several years coaching and was especially proud to have been the coach of the Valley Lions and Valley West Little League (VWLL) All-Stars.
He was a proud husband, father, and poppop. He affectionately called his wife the blonde bomber, loved celebrating his kids’ many accomplishments, and was overjoyed watching his family grow. Rick and Jane had recently moved down to South Carolina to enjoy their time with friends and family by the beach. He had joined the Elks and was spending his days golfing, fishing, and front porch sitting.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the VWLL baseball field located at Whispering Willows Park 334 South Main St. Conyngham, PA 18219 (casual attire). Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. In honor of his memory, donations can be sent to VWLL, PO BOX 224, Conyngham, PA 18219.
