Richard W. Squibb, 68, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at home with his loving wife and sister by his side. Born in Winchester, Massachusetts on January 29, 1955, Rick was the son of the late Warren and Virginia Nicholson Squibb.
Following high school graduation, Rick joined the US Navy where he served on the USS Cone prior to his honorable discharge on January 21, 1974 in Charleston, SC. He lived in Charleston for several years before moving to Rock Hill, SC where he made his home. In 1993, purely by ‘happenstance’ Rick met Sherry at a birthday party in Charlotte, NC and the two fell in love almost instantly dancing to Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind.”
Rick and Sherry began their lives together in Charlotte but in 1995 they moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina until 2001 when they made their home in Palm Coast, Florida. His love of the sunsets, as well as the beauty of the ocean was evident as he married Sherry on the beach in Hawaii in 2004. They returned to South Carolina in 2009 where they lived in Longs until his passing.
If you knew Rick, you knew that he loved Sherry; he loved listening to good ole southern rock; and you knew he loved the water. He enjoyed making memories while golfing, cruising, visiting islands, and especially time in the Florida Keys. He and Sherry loved camping with their beloved “Brady.” He was hoping get to Biloxi “one more time.”
Described as energetic, fun loving and free spirited, Rick was a selfless and devoted friend. He lived his life as an example of how to live. He was a beautiful man with a huge heart. Rick will be greatly missed.
Those blessed to have known him will treasure the memories forever.
Surviving in addition to his wife Sherry, are his sons, Derek Squibb, Brandon Squibb (wife, Tasha), Christopher Byars (wife, Wendy); grandson Luther; and step-grandson, Kai. Rick is also survived by his sister, Wendy Kinard.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. Lee Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
