Richard Boyce “Dick” Webb, husband of Fran Dunning-Webb, passed away on October 30, 2016.
He was the last child of the late Ernest Preston Webb and Eva Stubbs Webb. He was born June 10, 1926 in Anson County, N. C. and grew up in Blewett Falls, N. C. and Charlotte, N. C. He was an Army Air Corp Cadet and in flight training when World War II ended. After the war ended, he couldn’t wait to get back to Myrtle Beach and reconnect with his friends. He had fond memories of boating on White Lake and working as a lifeguard for John’s Beach Service, owned by Joe Buehler, in Myrtle Beach. Dick spent the majority of his working years in the Atlanta area as a manufacturer representative for men and women’s apparel. He also sold flexible packaging for many years and retired in 2003 at the age of 75.
Weather permitting, Dick looked forward to sitting on the beach in the afternoon feeding his feathered bird’s, with his group of friends, “The Hoodlum Gang”, reminiscing and laughing about the good old days. He will always be remembered as a Cary Grant style of man with his great sense of humor, his quick-wit, his ability to tell a fantastic story, and his giving everyone their own personal nick-name, including his feathered bird’s. He was inducted into the Beach Shagger’s Hall of Fame and The North Myrtle Beach Living Legends.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 38 years, Fran Dunning-Webb, aka “Baby Cakes”, who was his full time Caregiver. He is also survived by a son, Richard B. “Rick” Brooks (Dr. Olga), in Charlotte, several grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews all from the Charlotte area.
Services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, November 10 at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, North Myrtle Beach, SC with a reception following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
The family requests memorials made to The Hall of Fame Foundation, P. O. Box 4070, North Myrtle Beach, SC, 29587or Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 277, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
