

Rita Sophie De Young, age 83, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025. Born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, on February 13, 1942, Rita was the beloved daughter of the late Leo Anthony Trojan and Jennie Radginski Trojan.
Rita dedicated her life to education, earning her undergraduate degree from Rowan University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Patterson State University in New Jersey. She spent her career nurturing young minds as an elementary and special education teacher, leaving a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
Rita’s love for reading and flowers was evident to all who knew her. She possessed an extensive knowledge of gardening and delighted in sharing her tips and passion with family and friends. A devoted parishioner of the Catholic Church, Rita’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald DeYoung; her daughters, Jennifer DeYoung (Dan Kohler) and Michelle DeYoung Smethers (Chris Smethers); her cherished granddaughters, Madeline Kohler and Bridget Kohler; her sister, Amelia Lesak; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Jack Tierney, and Pam and Al Matthews; and
many nieces and nephews. Rita also leaves behind her adored grand-dogs, Snacks, Jack, and Sockeye.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Jennie Trojan; her stepfather, Andrew Siwulich; her siblings Teresa Lombardo, Leo Trojan, Leona Trojan, and John Trojan; and her beloved pets, Cheval and Holly.
Donations may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in Rita’s memory.
Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A private memorial mass will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
