Robert (Bob) Mangum, age 72, stopped leaving his footprints in the sand here on earth and started leaving them on the sandy beaches of heaven on March 2, 2023. Bob was born to Joseph and Emma Jean Mangum in Washington, DC on September 24, 1950. He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind two daughters, Shelly Mangum (Andy Price) of Blacksburg, VA and Ashley (Matt) Hill of Indian Trail, NC, three grandchildren Aaron, Courtney and Ava who were his pride and joy, his brother Tom (Ellie) of Colorado and brother Kenny (Joanie) of Pennsylvania, two nephews, a niece and two great nieces.
Bob spent most of his adult life in Virginia before he found his paradise in the Florida Keys. He just recently moved to South Carolina to be closer to his immediate family. Before moving to the Keys, Bob loved to hunt and was a truck driver by trade. He owned and operated his own excavation company for many years. He loved football which he played in High School and was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and the Virginia Tech Hokies. His love for his daughters, along with their love for sports led him to coach their softball teams where he fondly became known as b-o-B (which is Bob spelled backwards) by the girls teammates. If he wasn’t coaching, you could still find him in the stands cheering them on. He never missed a game.
Once he moved to the Keys he found his new love for the beach and the ocean. This is where he traded his love for hunting for fishing, crabbing and lobster fishing. He loved being on his boat in the open water. While in the Keys, he worked as a First Mate on the Yankee Freedom II taking tours to Fort Jefferson-Dry Tortugas National Park. After retiring his sea legs from the Yankee Freedom, he took on his true working retirement at Murray’s Market in Summerland Key where his co-workers quickly became his Keys family. Bob enjoyed many years in the Keys before deciding he wanted to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren.
Whether you knew him as Bob, Dad or PopPop he will be greatly missed. Love and peace until we see you again on Heaven’s beach.
With Warm Breezes and Following Seas.
