Robert B. McKinney

Buddy was born on February 11, 1939 in Avery County, NC to the late Robert Henry and Cora Lee (Cuthbertson) McKinney. He grew up in Charlotte, NC and graduated from Central High School. At the completion of high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was able to travel the world. After serving in the Navy, Buddy worked various sales jobs. His love of sales drew him to become a real estate agent, which took him to live at the beaches of North and South Carolina. He worked his way up to becoming Sales Manager Realtor. Buddy was an avid shagger and could always be found hanging out with his friends at Ducks or Fat Harold’s on Ocean Drive at “SOS”. In most recent years, he had been enjoying his retirement in Little River, SC.

In addition to his wife, Buddy is also survived by two sons; Robert “Brent” McKinney (Sugunya), Kenneth “Greg” McKinney (Paige). Stepchildren; Paul Devereaux (Cindy), Edie Venable (Dave), and Todd Devereaux (Tuesday). Grandchildren; Brandon Adams, Michael McKinney, Courtney McKinney, Jessica McKinney Baily, Madison McKinney, Wilson McKinney, Bryan Devereaux, Trevor Devereaux, Jon Devereaux, and Nikki Manley. Five great grandchildren; August McKinney, KJ Baily, Brian Cruz, Addison Cruz, Wyatt Devereaux.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin McKinney Smith.

A memorial service will begin at 2:00pm on Sunday, March 26,2023 at the Lee Funeral Home and Crematory, 11840 Highway 90, Little River, SC with the Rev. Jason Henrichson officiating.

There will also be graveside service and burial at Cuthbertson Cemetery in Crossnore, NC at a later date.
