

Born in Spartanburg, SC he was the son of Robert P. and Loretta Hawkins Petty, Sr.
Phil attended the University of South Carolina and was a standout quarterback for the football team. In the Gamecock career record books, he ranks fourth in pass attempts (861), sixth in pass completions (454), seventh in passing yards (5652), seventh in total offensive yards (5797), and tied ninth in passing touchdowns (28). He continued his career in football following graduation from USC, signing with the Tennessee Titans for a year. Phil was a part of the football coaching staffs at Hammond Academy, USC, East Carolina University and most recently, at Gray Collegiate.
Phil was a loving husband and father with a heart that bled of garnet and black for his Gamecocks.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Morgan Speros Petty; two beautiful children, Sage McKinley and Phillip McCoy Petty; his mother Loretta Sweeney (Jim); sister Allison White (Scott) and their children Garrett, Susannah, and Brendan; sister Lori Eustace (Billy) and their children Phillip Manning and Tristan Eustace; Sydney Condrey Ballenger; and Will Condrey. His father, Robert P. Petty, Sr., predeceased Phil.
Services are scheduled for 11:00am on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, 410 6th Ave. S, North Myrtle Beach, SC. Graveside service will be held at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens, 65 SC-90, Little River, SC. The family will receive family and friends for visitation and a reception at Mama Jean’s Restaurant, of Little River, immediately following.
