Roger Kenneth Johansen, 65, of Little River, SC, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 17, 2019.
Roger was always a bigger than life person. He came into this world living the Grateful Dead. As he realized there was more than music in the world he became a supporter of Nascar, Yankees and the Islanders. Then 40 years ago he met the love of his life, Julie. In his own words his “beautiful blond blue-eyed hippie chick sitting in the corner watching everybody, a lightning bolt hit me before I even got to say hello to her…” They spent the next 40 years creating a wonderful life. His spiritual mindset brought him to a new level when he became a Black Belt in karate. Roger was always looking to move forward and then drumming found him, and in his usual style he isn’t just a drummer he becomes a facilitator. He found his real passion when he became a mentor and Professor to all his students at Coastal Carolina. Roger was not just a dog lover but a rescuer. In one year he saved 238 lives and that's just from one shelter.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2019 in the Lackey Chapel at Coastal Carolina University, 105 University Blvd, Conway, SC.
In lieu of flowers, Roger would want you to donate to your local Animal Rescue, please do so in his name or please bring donations to Lackey Chapel, such as food, blankets or other supplies for Animal Rescue.
There will be a celebration of his life on October 14, 2019 in Narrowsburg, New York.
He is survived by his loving wife, Julie Spencer Johansen; children, Joshua Johansen (Lindsey Makula), Dustin (Jillian) Johansen, Cassandra Johansen and Jennifer Cangeme; brothers, Rob (Jen) Johansen, Russell (Kath) Johansen and Richard (Anne) Johansen; sisters, LouAnn (Thom) Joyce, Lynn (Bob) Costello and Lauren (Roy) Schlagenhaft; grandson, Noah Johansen.
