

Russell B. Condrey, Retired MSG (E-8), passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, at the age of 81, in the loving arms of his wife and surrounded by his family. Born on February 20, 1943, in Memphis, TN, Russell’s military career took him to various military posts, but he spent the majority of his life in Columbia, SC, where he lived from 1979 to 2018, before retiring to North Myrtle Beach, SC.
At the age of 17, Russell proudly joined the U.S. Army and served his country for 24 years, including 2 and a half years in Cambodia and Vietnam during the Vietnam Conflict. In 1964, while stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, he met Eileen, the love of his life, and they soon began a journey together that would last nearly six decades. His service in the US Army was marked by dedication, honor, and integrity. After retiring from the military, he pursued a second career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for another 20 years.
Russell was a man of strong character and an unwavering love for his family, friends, and country. He had a passion for fixing things and was always the first to volunteer to help with mechanical, carpentry, and electrical projects. He lived a full and meaningful life, leaving a lasting legacy of service and kindness.
Russell is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Eileen Condrey; daughter Jeannie (Donnie) Ray; son Roy (Danielle) Condrey; and his beloved grandchildren: Haley (Anthony) Pullano, Addison Condrey, James Claffy, Holden Condrey, and Sawyer Condrey. He is also survived by his brother Scott (Cookie) Condrey and sister-in-law Gloria (Tom) Anderson; brother-in-laws Clyde (Gloria) Omalza, Rogers Omalza; sister-in-law Loretta Tecson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Condrey; his brother, David Condrey; and his sister, Anita Ride.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. 3926 Devine St. Columbia, SC 29205.
Inurnment will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at Ft. Jackson at 3:00 PM. 4170 Percival Rd. Columbia SC 29229.
