

Sam grew up in Pancake, PA. He graduated from Claysville High school. After high school, he attended Greenville College in Illinois where he was an all-conference baseball player. He received a Master’s Degree in counseling from the University of Michigan. He worked for the Carman Ainsworth School System as a teacher and coach for 30 years. Sam also served honorably in the US Army Reserve.
Sam married Carol Herron in 1966 in Washington, PA. They were happily married for 54 years. Sam was a member of Anchor Baptist Church. He enjoyed church, family activities such as Friday night pizza, golf, basketball and crossword puzzles.
Sam was a loving husband, father, grandpa, father-in-law, brother and friend to everyone.
Sam is survived by his wife Carol; his sons, Matthew and his wife Stephanie of Ash, NC; Mark and his wife Julie of Midland, MI; and Timothy of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; granddaughters, Kallee Herron, Kassidy Herron of NC; and Bryce Herron, Bryanna Herron and Brylie Herron of MI; sisters, Marilyn Plants of Claysville, PA; and Susan Gifford of Lynchburg, VA; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Elizabeth Herron and a sister, Carolyn Herron.
A memorial service will be held in Claysville, PA at a later date.
