Eulogy:
For those that don't know me, I am Shelby's Aunt Troy. It is with great sadness that I am here today.  We have come together to honor and remember Shelby, and to celebrate his life. I cannot  describe the tremendous pain and monumental loss that our family is feeling.  When I think of Shelby, I remember his smile, his integrity and his compassion.  Rusty and Anita, you raised a son to be proud of. One of my warmest memories when Shelby was growing up, was that he loved baseball.  I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up? He said "I want to be Derek Jeter and play for the Yankees." What I learned from Shelby:
Work hard, have fun
Love your family and friends 
Laugh a lot, enjoy nature
And the greatest car ever built was the Shelby Mustang
Shelby was a special person, he brought fun and humor to our lives. He always had a smile.  Shelby will be missed every single day. And I will keep his memory and smile in my broken heart forever. 





Your Uncle Brady was so proud to come and watch you play baseball , he always bragged how good you were. We were so proud of all your accomplishments. You had your Grandmom's smile and that twinkle in your eye. 
May you rest easy Shelby in fair winds and calm seas. We can revisit you in our hearts and in our dreams.  Sleep well Shelby ❤

We met when your were four, we played with trucks on the kitchen flour. We counted M&M and we ate every one of them.  Even though you are not here, you are in the hands of your Uncle Robbie up there.  Love your Uncle Rick


I am truly saddened.  Me and his former shipmates on the BHR will never forget his kindness, smile and laughter.  We were all truly like a family.  We will miss you, "Moss".  Fair Winds and Following Seas...my brother.  We will never forget you!

I met Shelby as a young Sailor forward deployed in Sasebo Japan. He was always in good spirits and lifted the spirits of those around him. He was extremely dependable and skilled. The kind of Sailor a supervisor wants more of. Its shocking and sobering to see one so young and full of life taken so early. God rest your soul Shipmate. Fair Winds and Following Seas.

Shelby and I met while serving in the navy. He was one of those friends that always had your back and wouldn't hesitate to give you the shirt off his back. He was so funny and down to earth. We talked about meeting up and hanging out many times after life brought us separate ways and to different parts of the country after getting out of the navy. I wish we would've stopped talking about it and just did it. RIP buddy you'll be missed

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Shelby. I remember our trips to the shore with the kids all of us had a blast! Shelby always had a smile on his face. I will keep that smile locked in my heart! The baseball seasons and basketball seasons will live forever in my heart.

I played little league baseball with Shelby at Somerton. He was a great ball player and shared the same love for the game that his dad did. I ran into him at O’Mare’s while I was visiting home. It was really nice to catch up and being that we both have military service seeing our lives intersect through that common bond was special to me. Despite not being in contact throughout most of our lives the memories I shared with Shelby and his parents through baseball are ones that I will always hold close to my heart. Rest easy Shelby! 

No matter where he was when he came home he made sure to stop by to see us!  Always looking for my can of cookies that I made for him!  

Shelby was my first real friend in Myrtle Beach. I thought I’d found someone who ran my exact same speed, and I was so excited. I found out later that Shelby was extremely fast, and he was only running slow to talk to me. He had plans to take off if the conversation got boring, but it never did. We always joked that I was the only subscriber to his podcast because most of our runs consisted of him talking and me gasping for air.

My love for him can’t be put into words. We ran so many miles together, binge watched so much Netflix, drove so many miles around SC, and spent hours walking through the woods. We visited haunted gravesites, climbed trees, laughed about his ASICS, and shared the same weird sense of humor. He told me secrets he’d never told anyone, and I did the same. Shelby taught me about bourbon, muscle cars, and airplanes. He dreamed of buying a Shelby mustang of course, and he was going to drive it home so he could see the look on his dad’s face when he let him drive it. He told me crazy stories about his travels in the navy and his days as a high school trouble maker. He cared so much for his family and Ron and Colin and Peanut, and I always thought I would be lucky enough to meet you all one day. (“Just do a shot with Ron and she’ll like you”)

I don’t think I’ve ever met someone so caring and thoughtful. He loved my dog Kizzy, and last week he gave her a special button for her harness that I will cherish forever.  He brought me soft pretzels all the way back from Philly because he knew how much I loved them, sacrificed his own sleep to comfort me the night after I did CPR at work, & so much more.

All those hours we spent together will never be enough time. I love Shelby so much, and I hope he knew that. I wish I could get those moments back. I wish I could tell him how much he meant to me. All the memories can’t fit into this one little box.  I am so incredibly lucky to have known Shelby, and he will have a place in my heart forever.

What can I say, Shelby was good at everything he touched baseball, skiing, and studies. Also going into the Navy and landing a great job. He has made the Marion family so proud.  I hope you Rest In Peace cuz xoxo 

A good memory I have is working at the family restaurant together. 

I started working with Shelby about 3 years ago, he walked into a room and we all were instantly in a good mood, he was fun to talk to and always made people laugh. He always provided encouraging words and made everyone feel better. All of us at Myrtle Beach will miss him very much. 

We are brought together in a time of sorrow and Shelby will be truely missed.  Shelby was a stand up guy. He was easy going and liked by everyone.. A funny thing to always remeber is when he drank his water bottle he gulped so loud you could here it from across the room. I had the pleasure to train Shelby many times before he fully certified as an air traffic controller and he was smart and had many years ahead of him to do well. He took pride in his work and always did his best. May Shelby rest in peace and his family be at ease and know that they raised young man to be proud of.
