Tara Ann Gurry, age 57, passed away on May 30th at her home in River Hills, Little River, SC after a short battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Winchester, MA and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina.
Tara was an elite inline speedskater, with multiple national awards. While winning the women’s division of the Athens to Atlanta 87-mile marathon, she was the first woman to break the five-hour barrier. Transitioning to long-distance running, she achieved her personal record of 3:13 at the Boston Marathon. Her devotion to fitness and well-being led to multiple fitness certifications with an emphasis on yoga. She owned her own yoga studio and led yoga classes on North Myrtle Beach for many years.
Tara started her own photography business Tara Photography several years ago, which has over 200 five-star reviews. She was voted the #1 Photographer in North Myrtle Beach and was known for her passion and creativity to create joyful family reunion and beach wedding photos.
In recent years, she also worked as a realtor in North Myrtle Beach, using her skill in videography to bring home tours to a broader audience of potential buyers around the country. She used her YouTube channel to highlight farm stands and help promote local businesses. Tara enjoyed daily evening walks on the beach, riding her bike, and hiking in the mountains of Greenville, SC.
Tara is survived by her mother Ruthann Gurry and her father Kevin Gurry, both of Little River, SC, and her brother Brendan Gurry, his wife Diane, and her niece Kayla of Haverhill, MA.
Private services will be held.
