Terence Cooper “Terry” Steer, 77, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Seacoast Medical Center. Born on December 19, 1947, in Englewood, NJ, Terry was a son of the late Raymond J. Steer, Sr. and Katherine Steer.
The devoted husband of Sandra Steer, Terry is also survived by his son, Jarrett Thomas Steer; daughter, Kerrie Ann Steer; brother, Raymond J. Steer, Jr. (Debbie); niece, Courtney Eckman (Brett); and nephew, Michael Steer. He is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Steer and his nephew, RJ Steer, III.
Terry served in the Army from 1967-1969. He went to Vietnam with the 1st Air Cav, A Battery 2nd of the 19th, and was part of the TET Offensive. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Sandra Day, on September 20, 1969.
He then began his career as a Photo Engraver with Pamarco, and moved his family to Chesterfield, VA, where he continued that career with IR International. He rounded out his work life as a courier with Iron Mountain, retiring from that position in 2012.
He was a loving husband and father who coached and played softball and baseball, and who also enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, the dirt track, NASCAR, the Rangers, the Giants, and the Mets. In addition to his love of the beach, he most enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends – sharing experiences and making memories.
Terry was a former member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 78 in Richmond, VA, where he served as President for several years. He was a founding member of the TET ’68 Vietnam Veterans Reunion in Richmond for 20 years, as well as serving as the Recording Secretary of the VVA Virginia State Council during that time. Following his move to SC in 2014, Terry became a member of the local VVA Chapter 925 in Myrtle Beach, SC, until his passing. On May 19, 2018, Terry received the Quilt of Valor for his service to our country.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Longs.
