Vance Homer Slate, Jr., age 75, of Loris, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 12, 1947 in Greensboro, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Vance Homer Slate, Sr. and Mary Ellen Crabtree Slate.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Sue Wyrick Slate of the home; sons, Eric Samuel Slate of Loris, Robert Dean Slate of North Myrtle Beach; adopted son, Jason Barrett Wilkie of Loris; granddaughter, Savannah Slate; and great-granddaughter, Harper. Vance is also survived by his sister, Martha Ellen Slate Heck of Rochester, NY and sister-in-law Janice State, of Greensboro, NC. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Gene State, Sr.
Having retired from trucking in 2007, Vance found his passion was farming. He was a proud and active member of the 5 Star Farm and enjoyed all of the activities of farm life. Vance found joy in mowing and trimming around the farm, feeding the animals, and loved playing with his cats. His greatest joy was his family and he will be sorely missed by all.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society or Agape Hospice Care of South Carolina.
