William David Beardmore

William David “Dave” Beardmore, 90, of Loris, SC, passed away on Sunday morning, October 10, 2021, in North Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born on April 26, 1931, in Marietta, OH, a son of the late Delbert W. Beardmore, Sr. and Edna Mae Covey Beardmore.

Dave graduated from Marietta High School, Class of 1949, and lettered in basketball, cross country, and track. He was a meat cutter by trade and the owner of Beardmore’s Grocery in Marietta before co-owning the oceanfront Bel Aire Motel in North Myrtle Beach, followed by owning the oceanfront Sea Star Motel in Topsail Island, NC. Dave and Kay retired in 1996 to Winter Haven, FL, where they lived until 2014 when they returned to North Myrtle Beach.

Dave loved Marietta and its history – he would spend hours looking at and talking about the postings on the Memories of Marietta Facebook site. Over the years, he loved boating (and the Marietta Boat Club), traveling in their RV, playing golf, being outdoors in the sun, watching Ohio State football, eating (Colene’s) cherry pie, ice cream (every night), and his miniature poodle, Dixie, who never left his side.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Kay” Beardmore, whom he married on July 8, 1972; his sisters, Anne Bohanes of Marietta; Jayne (Ken) Godsey of Westerville, OH; his children; Micheline “Michi” (Dave) Westfall of North Myrtle Beach; Michael “Mike” (Carol) Beardmore of Marietta; Colene (Gary) Spindler of Marietta; Jon Beardmore of Marietta; Scott (Carol) Beardmore of Ft. Mill, SC; and their mother, Mary Ann Spires Smith, of Marietta; and his step-daughter, Laura Ann (Carey) Moe of Loris, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren Leslie (Chad) Hibbitts of Marietta; Ryan (Cathy) Spindler of Etna, OH; Jason (Sheri Sadler) Spindler of Pataskala, OH; Meredith (Tayman) Strahorn of New Rochelle, NY; Hilary Beardmore of Timmonsville, SC; Tylor Beardmore Smith of Spartanburg, SC; step-grandchildren, Sara Smith of Loris; Beth Riddell of Winter Haven, FL; 15 great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Kristy Jo Beardmore; grandson Joel Beardmore; brother Delbert W. Beardmore, Jr.; brother-in-law John Bohanes; and sisters-in-law Faye Oliver Beardmore; and Janet Van Fossen Beardmore.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 5, from 3-6pm at the Baymont by Wyndham in Marietta. Please follow COVID guidelines. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Washington County Historical Society, 346 Muskingum Drive, Marietta, OH 45750.
