William N. Parker, Sr. of Richmond, VA, died on May 29, 2026. He is survived by his son, Billy and wife, Laura Haskett Parker of Crozet, VA, and their children, Brent and Brooke Parker and Hayley Sutton; and his brother, Steve Parker of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his soul-friend wife, Annie Parker McIntyre. He is preceded in death by his wives, Lucy Harris Parker of Yorktown, VA and Lydia McCaskill Parker of Little River, SC. He is also preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Lois Cranford Parker; and by his son, Brent Harris Parker, who was 20 years old when he died on July 29, 1984.
Parker was born and grew up in Durham, NC and was a graduate of Durham High School. He earned an undergraduate degree in Distributive Education from Richmond Professional Institute in 1960 and a graduate degree in education from The University of Virginia in Education in 1968.
Parker served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-62. He was a petty officer in boot camp and was selected Company Honor man for his leadership. He was a member of the navigation team aboard the USS Sioux and a third class petty officer at the end of his two-year service.
Parker served as Distributive Education Coordinator at York High School in Yorktown, VA, from 1966 to 1981, a job that he truly enjoyed. While at York in 1977, he spearheaded the effort among parents to organize the York High Athletic Booster Club. He worked for ten years at Virginia Power in Richmond, VA, where he became a senior training specialist in the management training unit. There he dedicated his efforts to helping supervisors and other senior team leaders to be more effective in their roles of bringing out the best in their direct reports and teams, as well as themselves.
Bill was published in Executive Excellence and University Associates, 1989. Pfeiffer and Company has published his most recent work, “A Case Study in Teamwork and Leadership: The Calloway Power Station”, in their 1996 Annual.
His last venture in education was entrepreneurial and began when he retired from Virginia Power in October 1995. Through Bill Parker Associates, his work touched the lives of many organizational supervisors, managers, and frontline team members. He was an adjunct faculty member at The Management Institute, University of Richmond and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College for several years.
His greatest learning came from the experiences he had as a result of the classes designed and facilitated; the opportunities given to him by customers and supervisors; the influence of his friends, peers, and clients; and the mistakes he made in the journey toward greater personal effectiveness. He was an avid reader of books on leadership, teamwork, organizational effectiveness, and self-development. He truly loved people and wanted the best for them.
He loved music, both listening and singing. He sang at Greystone Baptist Church as a youngster and in variety shows in high school and undergraduate school. He also sang lead a couple of years in Virginia’s, Hampton Roads Barbershop Chorus in the 1970s. His love for singing turned to Karaoke in 2015 while as a retired resident of Little River, SC. He had sung over 5500 songs as of January 2026. He produced four romantic-song Christmas CDs for his former first-grade classmate and soul-friend wife, Annie Parker McIntyre. Singing proved to be wonderful therapy, as he dealt with esophageal cancer for his last five years. He could truly say that he had a wonderful, blessed life filled with wonderful family members and friends.
Bill was blessed to return to honoring Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior during the last three years of his life. This was made possible by his son, Billy’s, weekly Zoom Bible study influence and the impact that Ephesians, Luke, Acts, and Romans had on his renewed commitment to Christ. He also owes a debt of gratitude to Annie Parker McIntyre, who modeled and advocated her Christian faith in daily living.
Rather than a traditional funeral service, Bill’s life will be celebrated by his karaoke friends and neighbors at a remembrance gathering to be announced at a later date.
To honor his journey and the wonderful care he received, the family requests that donations in his memory be directed to:
