William was a devoted husband and father who cared deeply for his family. He was intelligent, opinionated, engaging, and rarely at a loss for something to talk about. Whether the subject was politics, finance, sports, or one of his many other interests, he brought energy, humor, and conviction to the conversation.

Football was also an important part of William’s life. An accomplished right guard in high school, he was later named to his school’s all-time team. He went on to Southern Connecticut, where he walked on to the football team and earned a full scholarship while completing his degree in physical education.
William also loved golf and the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. He possessed an extraordinary sense of direction and always seemed to know where he was going.
Over the course of his life, William made his home in Waterbury, Connecticut; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Conway, South Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Claire Bureau Scavone; his daughters, Elizabeth Ann Feren and Stephanie Claire Scavone Storey; his son, Anthony William Scavone; and seven beloved grandchildren.
William will be remembered for his love of family, his faith, his lively personality, his intelligence, his humor, and the many interests and passions he brought to a long and full life.
