William Ray Smith

Ray was born in Huntington, WV on November 10, 1949. Son of Morris and Nancy Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Morris Smith, his grandparents, Bessie and Travis Smith/William and Alice Dray

In addition to his wife he is also survived by his mother, Nancy Jo Smith of Clearwater, Fl. Wife, Jane Ellen Mills Smith of North Myrtle Beach SC. Children: Julie (Philip) Wilcox of Charleston SC and Sarah (Ron) Plante of Charleston SC. Grandchildren: Jameson Burke Wilcox, Smith Julian Wilcox, Tanner Ray Plante. A sister: Linda(Buck) Rogers of Palm Harbor, FL

Nieces and nephews: Natalie (Jeff) Szwaya of Palatine, Il, Leigh (TJ) Gang of Uniontown, OH, Tyler Gang, Olivia Gang, David (Jodie) Carper of Wilmore, KY, Kayleigh Spencer, Hannah Wolfe,Matthew Carper of Minneapolis, MN, and Maisie Carper, Theodore Carper

He was a graduate of Marshall University and Palmer College of Chiropractic.

He was owner of Smith Chiropractic & Associates, President of the WV Chiropractic Society, WV Delegate to American Chiropractic Association, First Chiropractor to serve on WV State Board of Health. He collaborated in rewriting WV practice law that became a model for other states. He was inducted into 1984 Who’s Who South & Southwest.

He served as deacon of 1st Baptist Church of Hurricane, Hurricane, WV, and was Chairman of Building Fund for Family Life Center for 1st Baptist of Hurricane.

President of Gideon Intl. Teays Valley WV Chapter.

He served as deacon of Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church – North Myrtle Beach, SC

He also served on the board and was president of Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, Hurricane WV

Ray was a man of unwavering faith, even in his darkest days of fighting his uphill battle with cancer.

He was a fiercely loyal husband and father. His family came first and meant everything in the world to him. He was a mentor and guidepost to so many. It was impossible to meet him and not love him.

He was an avid golfer, and in his younger years an all around athlete, some would say a natural.

He was incredibly empathetic, generous and charitable.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on August 28, 2026, at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, 410 6th Ave S, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.
