Winda F. Cathey

Judy passed peacefully Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at her home in Little River, SC.

Judy was born, Winda Faie Ward, March 13, 1940 in Columbus County, NC. The second daughter of her doting parents, Winn D. Ward (D) and Geneva Grace Cliff Ward (D). She is predeceased by her older wonderfully funny and loving sister, Jean Ward Britt.

Judy was married for 34 years to the patient, loving, kind and compassionate Roy Otis Cathey Sr.(D). Judy leaves to honor and cherish her memory and to share her stories, her daughters, Joy Covington-O'Nale (Bryan), Little River, SC and Sherrie Covington Hauer (Joe), Osprey, FL; and her son, Roy Otis Cathey Jr., Fayetteville, NC; and two step daughters, Diane Lynn Cathey and Linda Lee Cathey. Judy was blessed with four very much loved grandchildren, Travis Hauer (Alex), Ashley O'Nale, Tara Cathey and Dylan Cathey. She also leaves a very special nephew and niece , Tony Britt (Cyndi) and Regina Britt Williamson (Ronnie) as well as a bevy of cousins. Judy sadly leaves behind her very best friend and "partner in fun", John Potter. Judy leaves one sad puppy, her faithful, loving companion, Bow, in the care of her granddaughter, Ashley O'Nale.

A talented and gifted cosmetologist, Judy was the Owner/Operator of Judy's Beauty Salon for 30 years. She mentored and worked with some of the area's most talented stylists. Judy's Beauty Salon developed into quite the community hub. Men and women, young and old frequented the "Shop". They developed lifelong friendships, supporting each other through life's ups and downs, sharing successes and problems, laughter and tears. There was always something going on at the "Shop".

Judy was a beautiful woman, a powerful lifeforce, a woman to be "reckoned" with, strong and willful. She could also be as sweet as sugar, a habitual flirt and quite the conversationalist. Judy was a lover of the ocean, babies, plants and animals.

Grammie was lovingly cared for on a daily basis by her granddaughter, Ashley O'Nale. The entire family is forever grateful for Ashley's never ending compassion and commitment to her Grammie's comfort and wellbeing. We want to give a special thank you to Tracy, Cassie, and Tropicana for the loving care and concern they provided to our Mother. We thank the entire team at SCHousecalls, CVS US 17, and Agape for all their service.
