Albert M. Andersen, 93, of Fairfield Sunrise, formerly of Cedar Crest of Pompton Plains and for many years in West Orange, passed on to his well-earned mansion in Heaven on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 6:45 AM. Truly a Soldier for Christ his entire life, he was divinely guided through a long successful business career, transformed him into a dedicated Army Staff Sergeant during World War II winning accolades from his superiors and the respect of those serving under him, created a loving family with his beloved wife for sixty-nine years, Ruth, but most important enhanced his desire to make God the center of his family’s life through his remarkable dedication to Pleasantdale Presbyterian Church, West Orange.
In 1937, at the age of eighteen, he became an office boy for Chesesborough-Ponds Cosmetics (now Unilever) but that was interrupted in January, 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. Once his many abilities became known to his superiors, he was entrusted with many responsibilities but the most unusual was his interviewing of potential Norwegians (he was fluid in Norwegian) to assist in the protection of Norway against the Nazi invasion. After the war, he returned to his office boy position and during the many years to come, he earned the titles of, among others, Controller and retired as Assistant to the President, all with no college degree.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Ruth Frieda (Roland), his devoted children, Karen Timmons, Robert (Diane) and Jill Geiger (John); his loving grandchildren, Kierston Van Soest (Justin), Kari Timmons, Stephanie D’Souza (Raj), Stacie Andersen, Jake and Jeff Geiger and his most cherished great grandchildren, Oliver and Phoebe Van Soest.
His family will begin receiving family and friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., on Saturday, March 9, at 1 pm and the visitation will conclude with the funeral service at 4 pm. Interment will follow on Monday at Pleasantdale Cemetery, West Orange.
Please omit flowers but donations in his memory to Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, 194 Route 10 West, East Hanover, NJ 07936 would be greatly appreciated.
