Alma Healy (nee Major) was called to the Lord in a most peaceful and prayerful departure surrounded by family in Naples, FL on March 24, 2025. Born in Newark, NJ to Harvey and Margaret (Trainor) Major, Alma was third in line of ten children. Although not the oldest, Alma was considered the matriarch for her siblings, as well as many nieces, nephews and family friends throughout her life.
Alma lived a long, beautiful life filled with love for God, her family and community. She was the living example of following God’s path to everyone who came to know her. She generously donated her time, talents and treasure throughout her 89-year life, spending most of her spare time dedicated to helping Aquinas Academy and St. Philomena’s Church. She was full of wisdom that she generously shared to her dying day. Even as she advanced to late-stage Alzheimer’s, it was a normal day to find Mom sharing wisdom and a kind word to an aide, medical personnel or fellow resident. All fell in love with her once they crossed paths. She lived this way each and every day of her life.
Alma had a successful and fulfilling 42-year career working for AT&T and Bell Companies. She was respected by colleagues and brought her large team to great success for many decades. Although she retired in 1996, some core members of her team continued to reach out to her, even in her last year of life. She was an exceptional role model and true leader.
Alma was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 42 years, John Patrick Healy, her parents, Harvey and Margaret Major, sisters Patricia Solden, Jacqueline Marsano, Margaret Arace, Roberta Rogers and brother James Major. She is survived by her children, Martin Healy (Lori), Christine Muilenburg (Bill) and Kathleen Champion (Jared); grandchildren, Mykala Healy, Kiera Healy, Gianna Healy, Kimberly Peloquin, Ryan (Coop) Peloquin, Madison Peloquin, Christine Muilenburg, Kate Muilenburg, Jack Champion, Elizabeth Champion, Mary Champion; great grandchildren, Alea Estremera and Charlotte Smith, her sister Mary Porcello and brothers Kevin Major, Craig Major and Dennis Major.
A life dedicated to serving God is a life blessed with love for family and community. The lives she touched can not be counted and to measure the void she leaves is great. We will miss her beyond words but are comforted by the knowledge she is once again reunited with her husband in eternal life in His Kingdom. After all, we know if Alma didn’t get to Heaven, there’s no hope for the rest of us.
You are invited to join us to celebrate Alma’s life on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 4 pm – 8 pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, followed by her funeral mass on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at St. Philomena’s Church at 10 am in Livingston, NJ.
Please consider a donation to St. Philomena’s Church in lieu of flowers.
