Alvin Boncroft Smith, 82, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 in West Orange, NJ. Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, he attended Kingston Technical School and graduated in the spring of 1958. As a young business man, Alvin managed hotels on the beaches of Negril where he met the love of his life, Sandra Najera. Alvin and Sandy had an undeniable love for each other and life that resulted in many passion projects including, working in the food industry cultivating and selling homemade yogurts and most famously, bulla cakes in Dias, Hanover Parish. They owned and operated two businesses called Nature’s Way and AS Original’s where he and his wife created and sold painted T-Shirts, garments, and swim suits at hotel gift shops in Negril. Alvin remained in Jamaica until 1998 when he, his wife and daughter, Noelle, moved to West Orange, NJ to settle down close to family.
Once in New Jersey, Alvin pursued his passion for computers and studied at The Chubb Institute where he later earned his Computer Programming Degree and became a Technical Support Personal. On his free time, he would often refurbish and restore used computers for local students in need. In his later years, he would go on walks with his neighbors, share home cooked meals and host intimate barbeque’s to bring his community together.
The neighborhood he leaves behind will miss him dearly. He enjoyed listening to music, dancing, swimming and learning about new technology.
