Angelina (Angie) Diaz was born on March 10, 1924 in the small town of Corzal, Puerto Rico. Angelina’s parents, Santiaga Marrero Rodriquez and Jesus Marrero Dominquez, had eight children. Angelina was one of four girls. She also had three brothers.
In the early 1940’s, Angelina met the love of her life, Cecilio Diaz, whom she married in 1942. Their wedding took place at the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista in Puerto Rico.
As a young bride and mother, Angelina departed her beloved Puerto Rico and arrived in New York City in 1944. Here, Angelina and her husband Cecilio raised a family of six children--three girls and three boys. By the mid 1950’s, Angelina and Cecilio relocated their family to the suburbs of New Jersey. Angelina and her husband remained there until his passing in September of 2008. They had been married for sixty-seven years.
After Cecilio’s death, Angie moved to Rockledge, Florida and resided with her loving daughter Maria Hughley and her husband Otis for almost five years. Because of numerous health issues, Angelina moved into a Nursing Center in 2013 which was a short distance from her daughter’s home. Both Maria and Otis were a blessing especially during Angie’s final days. On Friday, January 29, 2016, Angelina passed away peacefully.
Angelina Diaz was certainly cherished and will be greatly missed by her large family and her dear friends. Everyone that met Angie fell in love with her. In addition, she was a meticulous housekeeper, maintained a warm kitchen that produced delicious Latin meals, dressed impeccably, enjoyed good music, and welcomed everyone into her home.
