Charles M. Alberto Jr., 88, passed away January 20 at his Livingston home surrounded by his family. Charles, better known as Charlie, was born March 6, 1933 in Orange, NJ. Charlie married his teenage sweetheart Joan Paradise on April 17, 1955. After graduating from Seton Hall University with a business degree, Charlie served as an Army sergeant before beginning his career at Prudential. Motivated by his favorite quote “Genuis is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration,” he became an entrepreneur at the age of 28 when he started his first business: Form Cut Industries–a manufacturing company located in Newark, NJ. In 1980, Charlie and Joan purchased The Forest Lodge: a 50 acre corporate picnic facility and banquet venue located in Warren, NJ.
As a philanthropist, Charlie established the Alberto Foundation–through which generous contributions have been made to many religious, educational and charitable institutions. His strong ties to his Italian heritage and Seton Hall University inspired him to establish the Charles and Joan Alberto Italian Studies Institute at Seton Hall University in 2004.
Charlie served as president of the Orange/West Orange Chapter of UNICO National and was an adviser to a number of corporate and charitable boards. He also received the UNICO National Humanitarian Award.
A successful businessman and entrepreneur, Charlie would say his greatest achievement was his family. He has two sons, Steve and Charles. Two daughter in laws Mary Kay and Maria. Six grandchildren, Christine (Greg), Catherine (Phil), Charles IV, Stephanie (AJ), Rachel (predeceased) and Leah. And an amazing blessing of three great grandchildren, Charlotte Rae, Elizabeth, and Sophia.
