Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Gene lived in Livingston since 1966. He was a 1956 graduate of Central High School, Newark and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. He started his career in sales at Worthington Industries. He later moved on to Davidson Pipe Supply as a sales manager retiring in 2007.
Among his many community activities and contributions, Gene has served as VP and State Director of the Livingston Jaycees; Past Chairman of the Livingston Memorial Day Parade Committee as well as the MC. He was Past President of Livingston Library Endowment Fund. He was also President of the Board of Trustees of the Livingston Library and a member of the Board of Livingston Youth Advisory Council. He also volunteered as a softball coach for the Livingston Youth Little League often coaching his daughters and continued even after his daughters aged out.
One of his proudest accomplishments in addition to his family was his involvement with the Livingston Chapter of Unico. In 1982, he was honored as Unico Citizen of the Year. As a valued member of Unico, he served as Past President; Unico District Governor; Unico National Mental Health Chairman and he was instrumental in initiating the annual Italian Festival and other fundraising events. This past year he was most recently honored for 50 years of exemplary service and dedication within Unico.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is predeceased by his wife, Doris; He is survived by his daughters Karen Manto-Corrao and her husband Russ of Florham Park; Jennifer Bellina and her husband John of Livingston; Devoted grandfather of Robert Bellina and Carlie Corrao. Cherished brother of Molly Maddaloni and brother in law of Betty Miele as well as several nieces and nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mount Pleasant Ave, Livingston, NJ 07039. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church, 386 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston, NJ, with interment to immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
