

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather
Ireneo (Rene) Cano. He passed away at 87 years of age on April 22, 2020. He was
predeceased by his daughter, Olivia, in 1993, who died at the age of 22, and is survived
by his loving wife Soledad Cano, and his children Celeste Bahia and her husband Percy,
Pia Marcks and her husband Paul, Enrico Cano and his wife Lorrie, Monica Walsh and
her husband George, Regina Masherelli and her husband Pat. He is also survived by his
grandchildren Crystal Alfonso and her husband Roderick, Samantha Bahia, Alexander
Bahia, Andrew Aguilera, Mark Walsh, Gianna Masherelli, Dominic Masherelli, and
Olivia Sean Cano.
Ireneo was born in Pulilan, Bulacan, Philippines. After completing law school, he
worked as a counselor and politician in the Philippines. He was a skilled motorcyclist
and would often bring his children to school on his motorcycle. He emigrated to the
United States in the early 1970s, where he worked as a skilled welder and later became
a self employed truck driver. He had incredible comedic wit and often demonstrated his
talent at family functions. He was very knowledgeable about any topic and would
regularly watch the game show, Jeopardy, due to his love for trivia, history, and current
events. Rene had great love for his family and will be deeply missed by everyone.
Special thanks to the staff at Inglemoor Rehabilitation and Care Center who provided
him with outstanding compassion and nursing care over the last three years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Jersey Pandemic relief fund (NJPRF)
Funeral and Memorial Mass services will be scheduled at a later date.
