James C. Bailey

He lived a long and fulfilling life growing up in Caldwell and raising his family in Livingston.

Jim was born on October 29, 1933, in Orange, NJ, to parents, James Carlton Bailey, and Marcella Falconer. Jim established a career as a carpenter with the family business, West Essex Home Improvement. In addition, he proudly served in the US National Guard for 9 years.

Jim is remembered as a kind and loving family member; honest, genuine and always sporting a good sense of humor. As a true craftsman and carpenter, he is remembered for the many projects he completed throughout the years for family and friends.

He was a proud and loyal father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He served others through community organizations such as Livingston First Aid Squad, Livingston Fire Department, Knights of Columbus and school sports clubs. Many will miss his friendly waves to neighbors as he sat in his front yard and will speak highly of his gardening skills and love for the many small animals that visited him. Of course, we will always remember him riding on his scooter with the flag waving above his seat as he made his way to visit the local supermarket.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eileen (Cable) Bailey; his sisters, Dolores Landon and Marilyn Courter; and brothers in law, Russell Landon and, Michael Courter.

Jim is survived by his son, James Bailey III and his wife, Adrienne Noel of Hillsboro, NH: his son, Thomas Bailey of Livingston, NJ; his son, John Bailey and his wife, Valerie Bailey of Dingman Ferry, Pennsylvania; his beloved grandchildren, Crystal Bailey, James Bailey IV, Jennifer (Bailey) Mores,, Jessica Bailey, Alyssa (Bailey) Mills, Ashley Bailey and Johnny Bailey; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2026, at Saint Philomena’s Catholic Church at 286 S. Livingston Avenue at 10:30am.
