James F. O'Dowd

James O’Dowd, age 78, of Maplewood, NJ, passed away on Tuesday August 21, 2012. A graveside service will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 125 Central Avenue East Orange, NJ, on Friday August 24, 2012 at 11AM. Arrangements under the direction of Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home Livingston, NJ. Born in County Sligo, Ireland, he lived in Maplewood for many years. James was a retired police sergeant with the Maplewood Police Department where he served for 33 years before his retirement. He was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep and attended Seton Hall University. James served his country in the Army during peacetime. He was a member of the NJ PBA and the VFW. He was predeceased by a brother Sean O’Dowd and is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Christine O’Dowd, a niece Elizabeth O’Dowd and a nephew Eamonn Anthony O’Dowd all of England, four cousins Anne Moore, Janet Chiaravallo, Pat Formisano and Bette O’Hare. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O.Box 1000, Dept.142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
