

John was born in Bloomfield, NJ to parents John and Eleanor (Mann) Bridge. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1966 and attended classes at Bloomfield College before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served honorably from 1969 until 1973.
John returned from service to start a career in law enforcement. First as a patrolman then becoming a detective for 27 years with the Township of Hillside Police Department.
He was the beloved husband of Mary Beth Bridge for 53 years. Together they raised three children, Michael, Leanne, and Christine.
John was kind, generous, and quick with a joke. His free time was most often spent in support of his children and later his grandchildren; always there to cheer them on at a sporting event or to build, repair, or paint anything that was needed. He was a fan of all sports, but followed the Yankees and Duke basketball teams with the most enthusiasm. He enjoyed visiting the beach on vacations with his family.
John was predeceased by his parents John and Eleanor Bridge. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Beth, their children, Michael (Danielle), Leanne (Matt), and Christine, and his grandsons Christopher and Alexander. He is also survived by his sisters Margaret (Peggy) Bridge and Barbara Carlson and her husband Don, and brother Bruce Bridge and his wife Marie, along with a niece and many nephews.
A private funeral service with military honors will be held for the immediate family.
