

Joseph T. Chiarella Pharmacy owner and Medical Corps veteran of WWII and Korean War, of West Orange Joseph T. Chiarella, 88, passed away at his residence in West Orange, N.J., on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015. His family will receive relatives and friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, N.J., on Friday, Dec. 4, from 5 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Raphael's Church, 346 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by the committal service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J.
Joseph was born in Orange, N.J., and had been a lifelong resident of West Orange. He honorably served his country in World War II and the Korean War in the Medical Corps and later became a member of the American Legion. Joseph received his pharmacy degree from St. John's University College of Pharmacy in 1956. He had owned the Redwood Pharmacy in West Orange and then Arnold Drugs in Lyndhurst, N.J., retiring in 2008.
Predeceased by his siblings, Concetta D'Aries, and Michael and Thomas Chiarella, Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Eleanor (Christiano); devoted children, Peter, William (Ilene), and Mary Gayle Scheper (William), and loving granddaughter, Kelly Clare Scheper. Joseph is also survived by his sisters, Elaine Alfieri, Vivian Petrillo and Santina Marotta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West Orange Fire Department, 415 Valley Rd., West Orange, N.J. 07052, or the Eleventh Hour Rescue, P.O. Box 218, Rockaway, N.J. 07866.
