Lawrence C. Kennedy, 92, of Ortley Beach, N.J., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philomena's Church, 386 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston, N.J., on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 10am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. The family will receive their friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mount Pleasant Ave., Livingston, N.J.; on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. Larry was born in Newark, N.J., where he spent most of his life, retiring to Ortley Beach. Mr. Kennedy was a U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II serving in North Africa. He was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart and Presidential Unit Citation. He was a detective on the Newark Police Department and received many commendations. Lawrence was the loving husband for 65 years to Maryann Kennedy who predeceased him. He was the cherished father of Carol Lampf and her husband, Stephen, of Chatham, N.J., and Eileen Mary Hickey and her husband, Joseph, of Ortley Beach, N.J., and father-in-law to Barbara O'Donnell and family. Larry was predeceased by his loving son, Kevin Kennedy. He was the cherished "Pop Pop" to Brian and Janet, Joshua and Lindsey, Adam, MaryKate and Patrick and the beloved "Grand-Pop Pop" to Allie and Marley. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Pride Program at ECLC of New Jersey, 100 Passaic Ave., Chatham, N.J. 07928.
