

Madelyn Loretta Miller (nee Stanton), most recently of West Orange, died peacefully at Brighton Gardens in West Orange on September 14. She was surrounded in her last days by family and friends and pictures of her beloved Jersey shore. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 18, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Philomena’s Church, 386 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 17, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave. Madelyn was born in Belle Harbor, NY, on December 7, 1925, and raised on dude ranches in Arizona and New Jersey. She graduated from Caldwell College, where she majored in French and was the captain of the basketball team, in 1947. She had a successful career as a buyer for Best & Co. in New York City and Hanes in Newark before marrying John J. Miller on September 7, 1963, and leaving the fashion world to raise a family in Irvington. She later joined her husband, who was a member of the New Jersey Assembly, in his insurance business. She retired to Bay Head, NJ, in 1993, where she enjoyed hosting large family gatherings, gardening, and taking care of her beloved German Shepherd Brandy. She spent countless hours volunteering with the Brielle Women’s Club, where she served as Vice President and Treasurer. She is survived by her husband John, daughter Patricia and son-in-law Anthony Spadafore of Alexandria, VA, son Keith and daughter-in-law Diana of Livingston, NJ, daughter Kathleen and son-in-law Frank O’Donnell of Hamilton, NJ, brother Walter of College Park, MD, and grandchildren Patrick, Olivia, Sean, Grace and Colin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 94 Old Short Hills Rd., West Orange, NJ 07052.
