

Margaret A. “Peg” Kavalus (nee: Hooper), 89, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 27, 2012. Her family will receive friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, 3-8 PM. The Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be offered at St. Philomena’s Church, 386 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston, on Thursday at 10 AM followed by the committal service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. John’s Soup Kitchen, 22 Mulberry St., Newark, NJ 07102-0822 or St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, 315 E. Lindsley Rd., Cedar Grove, NJ 07009 would be greatly appreciated.
Margaret was born and raised in East Newark and was a proud graduate of St. Vincent’s Academy, Newark, in 1942. She had lived in Livingston for 40 years, moving to Barnegat in 1988 and then to Florham Park in 2002. Margaret was a past member and president of the St. Philomena’s Rosary Altar Society and was instrumental in the creation of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel of St. Mary’s Parish in Barnegat.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Leonard S., she is survived by her devoted children: Peter; Joseph and his children Matthew, Meghan, Michael and Kaitlyn; Mary Ellen Cifelli, her husband Frank and their children Erin, Cara and Kristin; Nancy Garelick, her husband Ira and their children Jonathan, Kevin and Steven; Barbara Kavalus and her children Timothy and Johanna; and Peg’s cherished great grandchildren Grace, Nicholas and Anthony.
