Maria A. Teta

Maria Antonia Teta passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2021 at the age of 89. Maria was born on November 4, 1931 in Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, Italy to Giuseppe Antoniello and Brigida Mimosa. On April 30, 1953, Maria married Antonio Teta in Italy. They were happily married for forty-nine years. They immigrated to the United States in 1971 and have been residents of New Jersey ever since. She retired from St. Mary’s hospital in 1991 and moved to East Hanover shortly thereafter, where she remained until her death.

Maria was a devoted wife and mother of nine children. She was a tremendous chef and baker, making traditional Italian recipes from scratch. She and her husband shared a passion for gardening – each year growing the most beautiful flowers and a plentiful vegetable garden that fed many. Every year Maria and her family shared the wonderful tradition of making homemade wine and tomato sauce. Maria also made countless masterpieces with her crochet needle, which she carried with her everywhere.

Maria is survived by her two sisters, Angela Antoniello and Concetta Fuschetto, her nine children, Carmela (Carmen DeFeo), Giuseppe Teta, Gaetano (Bruna Teta), Felicia (Franco Casale), Maria (Pietro DiMatteo), Teresa (Mario Laucella), Sabino Teta (Donna Brunnquell), Luigi Teta and Fiurina (Tony Abilio). She is also survived by her 24 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio and her four siblings. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on June 4, 2021 from 4-8 pm at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mount Pleasant Ave, Livingston, NJ. Funeral Mass will be held on June 5, 2021 at 11:15 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 316 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ. Interment will be held on June 5, 2021 at 12:30 pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ.
