Marina was born on October 6, 1934, in Yugoslavia to parents Wilhelm and Maria (Weider) Konrath. Her parents left war-torn Europe in pursuit of a better life for their family. In 1956, Marina immigrated to the United States with her family. They were sponsored by the Presbyterian Church of Livingston, which provided them with an apartment, helped them find jobs in a factory, and supported them in learning English and adapting to American life.
Eventually, the family moved into a home in Livingston, where Marina lived happily until her recent illness. Determined and hardworking, Marina learned English and pursued further education, ultimately becoming a successful computer programmer at the pharmaceutical company Sandoz (now Novartis). She later left her career to care for her mother.
Marina’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She cherished visits with her sister Martha, spending summers on the beaches of the Jersey Shore, enjoyed skiing in the winters, and traveled the world—often with her dear sister Judith. She was an exceptional baker, known for beautifully decorating cookies during the holidays. Marina had a keen eye for fashion, a love for flowers, and an appreciation for beauty in her surroundings—even in her final days.
Marina was preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm and Maria Konrath, and all eight of her siblings, including her beloved sisters Judith Schreiber and Martha Nirschl. She is survived by her nephew Walter Schreiber; nephews Joseph Nirschl and Fred (Tracy) Nirschl and their daughters, Reed and Molly; and her niece Monica (Jay) Bream and their children, Anna and Alec.
Marina’s warmth, elegance, generosity, and kindness enriched the lives of all who knew her. She was deeply loved and will be missed beyond words. Our sorrow is eased by the comforting thought that she is now at peace, reunited with her beloved parents and siblings, whom she missed so dearly.
