Mary Catherine Hanlon, 87 of Livingston, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home on April 13, 2021.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mary Catherine Eileen Frances Scully Hanlon was the daughter of Mary Frances and Patrick Joseph Scully. Mary was the loving sister to brothers Patrick and John and sisters Ann and Lourdes.

Raised in East Orange and Upper Montclair, Mary graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, NJ. Mary worked for NJ Bell. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Thomas L. Hanlon. They settled in Livingston to raise their family. Mary was always a cheering mother in the stands at her children’s sporting events and activities. An active member of St. Raphael Parish, Mary served as President of the St. Raphael Seniors Group for many years. Mary was retired from Mayflower Savings in Livingston where she was a Bank Teller.

Mary is predeceased by her husband Tom, and is survived by her five children, Thomas P. Hanlon (Carrie), Timothy M. Hanlon (Susan), Kathleen A. Yeomans (Richard), Mary Beth Hanlon (Mark Moglia), Michael T. Hanlon (Mary Grace). Mary is the adored Grandmother of Gillian Mary Hanlon, Deirdre Hanlon, Siobhan Hanlon, Olivia Hanlon, Cassidy Rose Hanlon, Grace Hanlon and Thomas Hanlon and great grandchild Aiden. Mary is also survived by her sister, Lourdes Healy of Albany, NY along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Mary loved to travel and vacation in Hilton Head and LBI. She was most happy spending time with family and friends. Mary was always known for her wonderful parties, sense of humor, her absolute faith and a zest for life.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 16 from 3:00 7:00PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am on Saturday, April 17 at St. Raphael’s Church, Livingston, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

Mary and Tom always supported their community and were generous to those in need. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children Hospital (https://bit.ly/3ewlIrJ) and Livingston First Aid Squad (lfas.org/donation).

Saw the obit of your mom on the Hopping web site. So sorry to hear of your loss. We all spent a lot of time together at wrestling matches and tournaments. Great memories. May Mary’s memory be a blessing.

To the Hanlon Family, Your mom as well as your family was part of our lives living in the same neighborhood growing up together for all these years. I recall your mom working at my bank for many years and always running into her at ShopRite, always a smile on her face and something nice to say.
