

Bette was born on July 11, 1930 in Ireland, to parents, John and Elizabeth (Farrelly) Battersby. She graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy in 1948. Bette moved to Livingston in 1952 and resided there for 70 years. She went on to establish a career as a personnel manager, working at B Altmans in Short Hills for 25+ years.
Bette was a beautiful person, inside and out. A devoted mother: she was strong, kind, and generous. She loved her family dearly and thoroughly enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Bette was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and loved to celebrate all of their milestones, big and small. Bette, always happy and cheerful, had many friends whom she enjoyed traveling and socializing with. She was very active in the Livingston AARP and enjoyed planning social events and activities. She was everyone’s favorite Grandma Bette!
Bette was preceded in death by her husband, Denes D. Nagy, parents John and Elizabeth Battersby, and in-laws Bert and Elizabeth Nagy.
Bette is survived by her son Robert Nagy and wife Debra, her daughter Sharon Dougherty and husband Charles, 6 grandchildren – Derek, Bryan, Carli, Colin, Kelli, and Kristen, and 9 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a two-hour Visitation on Tuesday, October 8th at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Av., Livingston, New Jersey 07039, from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 9th at St. Philomena Roman Catholic, 386 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston, New Jersey 07039, at 10:00am, with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, New Jersey 07936.
