Mathias F. Sullivan

Mathias F. Sullivan, 83, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in West Orange, NJ. Mathias was born in New York, and resided in West Orange, NJ and Sarasota, FL. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He was the CFO of Associated Aviation Underwriters (AAU) for 45 years and worked at both the Short Hills and New York offices. Mathias was an avid golfer, and was a former member and board member of the Essex County Country Club, and former member of Forest Hills Field Club. He currently belonged to Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club in Sarasota, FL. Up until last year, he was an avid softball player in both the Sarasota Senior Softball League and The Natural’s Team in New Jersey. Mathias was an avid Yankees fan and woodworking was one of his hobbies. Above all, he was a loving and caring Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather.

Mathias was predeceased by his first wife and is survived by his loving wife, Connie. Together they had 9 children, 17 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston. Memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 10 at 11AM at St. Brigid’s Church, Westbury, NY followed by burial at Cemetery of the Holy Rood.

My Memory of Mr Sullivan “Matt” was of him & Pat enjoying life on Davenport Place with their 4 kids! They had a pool in the yard & my sister Terry was Stacey’s Best Friend! God Bless Stacey, Kelli, Timmy & Kenneth, your parents are now your Guardian Angels! XXXOOO

So many memories as a kid spending time with my cousins at my grandparents house as well as their house on Davenport Place. I remember spending time at the 1000 Islands too. Uncle Matt, your smile always made me feel safe and loved. Grateful and proud to have had you in my life. Love to all my cousins
