He was born and raised in Newark New Jersey to Lucy Gargiulo and John Caruso on August 7, 1935.
He attended the Newark public schools and graduated from Barringer High School where he participated in the high school orchestra playing the violin and, in the band, playing the bass. Bob continued his studies at the Newark College of Engineering (NJIT) obtaining his degree in chemical engineering.
Bob was a chemical engineer for Tenneco and Millmaster Onyx for over 30 years. Upon retiring, he owned and operated the Raritan CarWash in Sayreville, New Jersey. Once fully retired, he spent quality time, enjoying music, reading and volunteering for different organizations. He was a member of the Westfield and Livingston chapters of ÚNICO and volunteered for the Score organization mentoring, and advising small business owners.
Bob was a devoted husband and was deeply committed to his beloved wife, Angela (nee Picone) having celebrated 56 years of marriage in September 2025. He loved to travel and share long walks with Angela as well as spending time with his nieces and nephews. Over the past few years, while residing in Livingston, he enjoyed the company of his newfound friends gathering on a regular basis for lunch.
His kindhearted, gentle, compassionate, and caring manner endeared him to all who knew him. We will miss his companionship and his friendship. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, family, and countless friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Angela, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Lucy and John and his brother John.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
On behalf of his wife, all are welcome to join her on Friday, October 24 and Saturday October 25 from 1 to 6 pm at their home.
