Robert W. Shiel Jr.

Robert W. Shiel Jr., known affectionately as Bob, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born on August 20, 1950, to Robert W. Shiel and Bernice Walsh, Bob was a lifelong resident of West Orange.

Bob was a graduate of Essex Catholic School before working with his father and ultimately taking over the family plumbing business. After 40+ years as a master plumber, Bob transitioned into the Building Plumbing Sub code official for the towns of Livingston, South Orange, and Essex Fells.

In 1977, Bob married his beloved wife, Kathy Recchia, in a beautiful ceremony at their hometown church. Together, they raised two children: John Shiel and Jaime Kostibos. Bob was also blessed with two grandsons, Matty and Jax. His greatest source of happiness was spending time with his grandsons, whether it be watching them play sports or creating lifelong LBI memories. His Sunday morning donut and coffee runs with the boys is a memory they will hold forever.

His memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Kathy; his children, John Shiel, Jaime and Kevin Kostibos; his two grandchildren, Matty Kostibos and Jax Kostibos and his sister Carol Shiel Landers.

The funeral will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange at 11am on Thursday, May 30th.
