

Tong was born on March 15, 1963, in Shanghai, to parents, Qin Ke Wu and Lu Min Er. He graduated from Feng Hua High School in 1981. He continued his education at Tong Ji University in Shanghai and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Early in his career, Tong worked in Jordan on several palace projects for the Royal Family before immigrating to the United States in 1990.
After arriving in the U.S., Tong earned his MBA and achieved the distinction of becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He built a long and successful career in finance and compliance, working at NASD, Citigroup, and JP Morgan Chase.
In 2005, Tong was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer and faced a long and courageous battle with remarkable strength, resilience, and determination. Throughout his life, he remained endlessly curious and passionate about learning. He loved exploring subjects ranging from finance and history to classical music. He also enjoyed building and fixing things and took pride in being the family handyman.
Above all, Tong was a devoted husband, father, and father-in-law. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ping; his sons, David and Eddie; and his daughters-in-law, Emma and Miki. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Viewing is scheduled for May 30, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home at 145 East Mount Pleasant Avenue in Livingston, NJ. This will be followed by a Memorial Service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home, and interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 11:30AM.
