Wayne was born on July 11, 1945, in Paterson, NJ, the son of John Irving Gordon and Lillian Grace McDonald. Wayne was the youngest of five children raised in Waldwick, NJ.
After high school, Wayne joined the U.S. Army, Field Artillery Branch, in 1963, and served until honorably discharged in 1969. During active duty, Wayne was stationed in Germany and earned several medals including sharpshooter honors.
In October 1967, Wayne married Nora Patricia Drury (deceased) at St. Anthony Church in Hawthorne. Wayne and Nora relocated within New Jersey many times before settling long term in Hillsdale where they raised two children, Susan (Auchincloss) and Douglas. In retirement, Wayne and Nora enjoyed life in a new senior living community in Barnegat.
For over 40 years, Wayne worked as a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in Ho-Ho-Kus. He worked his job with pride and loved the neighborhood and people he served. He always had intriguing on-the-job stories as he often hand delivered the mail to gain the personal interactions, get the neighborhood gossip, and really to boost his chances for better holiday tips.
On his off time, Wayne was always involved in family weekend activities and loved watching his beloved but much maligned NY Giants and NY Rangers. He was also a Yankees fan going back to his childhood days and listening to games on a transistor radio. In his younger adult years he was an avid fisherman often taking the family to the Catskills area in NYS. Cooking was not his passion but he was very good at making Sunday morning breakfast and the occasional cheese ball. Wayne loved to entertain and have family gatherings. He took great pride in putting together slide shows of family vacations with the purpose of embarrassing his children in good fun of course.
Wayne is survived by his two children and their spouses, and two granddaughters, Olivia and Sienna.
