William Ross (“Bill”) Michael entered Heaven’s gates on August 1st, 2021. Bill was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 15th, 1937 to John William Michael and Elsie Edlund. The oldest of five siblings, Bill was dedicated to his country and served in the US Marines reserve. A chemist by trade, Bill worked for Allied Chemical and Honeywell for over 40 years and was issued multiple patents for his groundbreaking work.
Bill was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Possessing a philanthropic soul, Bill dedicated his time to the West Orange Elks, twice serving as the Exalted Ruler, along with other state and chapter level positions. He was also a trustee for Camp Moore, a special needs summer camp, which held a special place in his heart. Outside of his charity work, Bill was an avid reader, bowler, and gardener. He loved to create and build things with his innumerable sets of tools. Bill was his son’s frequent mentor and partner for home improvement projects. Bill was also an accomplished baker and chef. He made snickerdoodles with his granddaughter every Christmas and cooked Thanksgiving dinner every year for his family. Bill was an active grandparent, who had the patience to teach his grandchildren Stephanie and Matthew how to drive. His grandchildren were his world. Bill’s even temperament and wisdom allowed him to be the backbone of support for his family.
Bill will be greatly missed, especially on Sundays for family dinner. May his soul rest in peace next to the ones he loves.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021, from 2-4 & 7-9PM. At the family's request, masks will be required for the gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's name may be made to the West Orange Elks Lodge, 424 Main Street, West Orange, NJ 07052.
