Al was born on April 6, 1934 in Longmont to Alfred Vance Dworak and Elizabeth Irving (Crockett) Dworak. After graduating from Longmont High School in 1952 he spent a less than stellar year at the Colorado School of Mines. He transferred to the University of Colorado and graduated in 1956 with B.S. in Business Administration. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
After a short time trying a variety of careers in Denver, Al was invited to join the A.V. Dworak Realty and Insurance company as a property and casualty insurance broker by his father and brother Ed. Al, with his brother and Bill Stafford, Sr., engaged in a number of investment opportunities in Longmont. They were masters at completing deals on a handshake without raised voices.
He went on a blind date with Nancy Williamson to Denver’s Mon-Vue Village to see the Queen City Jazz Band. Two dates later, they were engaged and then married on October 13, 1962 in Falls City, Nebraska. Throughout their love-filled marriage they travelled the world, avidly skied, biked, walked and enjoyed classical and jazz music, on their own and with many great friends. They were especially fond of Santa Fe, NM, and its culture, art, and architecture.
Al loved being a dad to his boys, offering them never-ending love and wisdom, occasional banking services, and taking them out of school to go on family vacations and see movies.
After Nancy's death in 2006, Al married Dixie L. Wolf in 2008 and enjoyed a wonderful time of love and devotion with her.
Al was a member of the United Church of Christ, Longmont serving as treasurer and member of the board of trustees. He was member of the Golden K Kiwanis club of Longmont and served on the boards of the St. Vrain Valley Educational Foundation and the Boulder County Independent Insurance Agents Association. He was better known for donating to just about every worthy cause that crossed his desk, but also privately paid for funerals for families in need and financially and morally supported many individuals with their mental illness and addiction issues.
In addition to Nancy, Al was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
Surviving are his wife Dixie of Longmont; sons Karl Benjamin Dworak of Denver and Anton Vance Dworak and his wife Jeanne of Longmont. Al had three grandchildren, Naomi, Alfred and Lela. A life-long dog lover, he is also survived by his ""grand-dogs"" Shaggi, Kandy and Captain.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday June 20 at UCC Longmont, Ninth Avenue and Francis Street. A cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and he will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Longmont United Hospital Foundation, Morris Animal Foundation or UCC Longmont, care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont CO 80501.
