May 29, 2023, Alice James, 76, of Longmont, CO, passed away peacefully at home, her husband Richard, by her side. Early that morning, her parakeets chirped and sang to her and to each other and ushered her toward heaven’s gates.
Richard and Alice married in 1965 and lived on Long Island, NY until they moved to the Boulder/Longmont area in 1969 where they made their home in Longmont for 54 years. Alice’s final wish was to be at home in her last days with the majestic views of Longs Peak and her gorgeous backyard close by.
Alice was a celebrated and award-winning realtor and the President of the Longmont Association of Realtors in 1993. Being of Puerto Rican descent, she spoke fluent Spanish and earned a special place in the Hispanic community. She was fiercely protective of her clients, and they remained loyal to her, often inviting her to weddings, birthdays, and graduations.
Alice, the eldest of three children, was born on December 28, 1946, to Armando and Sylvia Cintron in Flushing, New York. In 1964, she graduated high school from South High in Valley Stream, NY and married her high school sweetheart, Richie, that September. Alice obtained her real estate license, an enormous achievement for her at the time, since she often described herself as shy and insecure, in 1979. She quickly found her niche helping countless people find their new home. Her clients were often generational. Alice found homes for grandparents, their kids, and their kids’ kids.
Real estate was a passion for Alice since she was 7 years old. She instructed her father when they were moving from Flushing to Valley Stream, that he needed to find a 3-bedroom home with a 2-car detached garage, and that’s exactly what he did. She received numerous awards throughout her career including the REMAX Platinum Club, REMAX Hall of Fame, and in 1994, Realtor of the Year.
Alice was a fantastic storyteller and knew how to entertain with silly anecdotes, especially about her mother and her husband, often using hilarious facial expressions to reenact an event. Her laugh was infectious, her love-language: food. All holidays and birthdays were celebrated at Grandma Alice’s house. She always had enough food for everyone, and we all looked forward to her Arroz Con Pollo dish. At Christmas, she’d bake a chocolate cake and have the whole family hold hands and sing Happy Birthday to Baby Jesus. Her canine companions and parakeets were always dear to her. She had a fondness for the name Skippy and every parakeet she ever homed was named Skippy.
Alice was predeceased by her father, Armando Cintron, her mother Sylvia Cintron and her brother Richard A. Cintron.
She is survived by her husband, Richard E. James, children Dina Young (Jerin), Lori James and Rick James. She is also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses, Tyson Martinez (Charlea), Amanda Johnson (Jake), Michaela Schreiner (Heath), Savannah Nelson (Luke), Alexandria Preston (Ryan) and David James. And 5 great-grandchildren, Karter, Jaylen, Benjamin, Beaudan, Leighton and Baby Martinez due September, 2023.
Alice also leaves her sister, Lydia Williams (Joseph) and their daughters Renee and Michelle (Joseph), their children, as well as her sister-in-law, Celia Murray and her sons Jamie and Mike and daughters Elizabeth and Patty as well as their children and grandchildren.
A memorial mass for Alice will be held Friday, June 30, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 323 Collyer Street, Longmont, CO 80501.
